Flat 4.99% (cut from 5.19% for 2026) — free, with 2026 federal and state rates.
Georgia changed its paycheck maths twice in quick succession — first to a flat tax, then cutting that rate again for 2026 while raising the standard deduction. If you last checked your Georgia take-home pay a year or two ago, it is worth checking again. This calculator uses the current 4.99% rate and the 2026 deductions.

How your Georgia paycheck is taxed in 2026
Georgia cut its flat rate to 4.99% for 2026 and raised the standard deduction to $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married couples — so a Georgia worker keeps more of every paycheck than the headline rate suggests. No Georgia city charges a local income tax.
Three more deductions apply in every state. Federal income tax uses the 2026 brackets (10% to 37%) after the federal standard deduction — $16,100 if you file single, $32,200 if married filing jointly. Social Security takes 6.2% of your wages up to $184,500. Medicare takes 1.45% of all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000.

Georgia paycheck questions
What is Georgia's income tax rate for 2026?
A flat 4.99% on taxable income. House Bill 463 cut it from 5.19% and applied the lower rate to the whole of 2026. The standard deduction also rose, to $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly.
How much tax is taken from a $70,000 paycheck in Georgia?
For a single filer, roughly $6,570 goes to federal income tax, about $2,745 to Georgia (after the $15,000 standard deduction), $4,340 to Social Security and $1,015 to Medicare — take-home pay of about $55,330 a year.
Does Atlanta charge a city income tax?
No. No Georgia city or county levies an income tax on wages. What comes out of an Atlanta paycheck is the same as anywhere else in Georgia: federal, state and FICA.
Why was my Georgia withholding higher at the start of 2026?
Employers withheld at the old 5.19% rate until the new law took effect in May 2026. Because the 4.99% rate covers the full year, the extra withholding is not lost — it comes back as a bigger refund (or smaller bill) when you file your 2026 Georgia return.
