Ohio Paycheck Calculator

Flat 2.75% on income over $26,050 (new for 2026) — free, with 2026 federal and state rates.

Ohio rewrote its income tax for 2026: the old ladder of brackets is gone, replaced by a single flat rate — and the first $26,050 you earn is not taxed at all. This Ohio paycheck calculator uses the new system, so if you compared your pay with an older calculator, expect a slightly kinder result this year.

Your pay

Pre-tax deductions lower your income tax but not Social Security and Medicare — just like a real pay stub.

How your Ohio paycheck is taxed in 2026

Ohio finished a big simplification in 2026: the old bracket ladder is gone, replaced by one flat 2.75% rate, and the first $26,050 you earn is not taxed at all. Many Ohio cities also charge a municipal income tax (often 1%–2.5%) and some school districts add their own — those local taxes are not in this estimate.

Three more deductions apply in every state. Federal income tax uses the 2026 brackets (10% to 37%) after the federal standard deduction — $16,100 if you file single, $32,200 if married filing jointly. Social Security takes 6.2% of your wages up to $184,500. Medicare takes 1.45% of all wages, plus an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000.

Ohio paycheck questions

What changed with Ohio taxes in 2026?

Ohio moved to a single flat rate of 2.75% on income above $26,050. Income at or below $26,050 pays no state income tax at all. It is the final step of a multi-year plan that steadily cut and flattened the state's rates.

How much state tax is taken from a $60,000 paycheck in Ohio?

Only the part above $26,050 is taxed: ($60,000 − $26,050) × 2.75% ≈ $934 a year — an effective state rate of about 1.6%. Add roughly $5,020 federal income tax, $3,720 Social Security and $870 Medicare, and take-home pay is about $49,460.

Do Ohio cities tax my paycheck too?

Most do. Municipal income taxes (often 1% to 2.5%, Columbus and Cleveland are 2.5%) are withheld by employers in Ohio, and some school districts add a school district income tax. These local taxes are not in this calculator's estimate, which covers state and federal tax.

I work in Ohio but live in another state. Which state taxes me?

Generally Ohio taxes work performed in Ohio, but Ohio has reciprocity agreements with Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan and Pennsylvania: if you live in one of those states, you can file a form with your employer to have only your home state tax withheld.
